Rwanda
Rwanda is a small, landlocked country in east-central Africa, known for its scenic hills and savannas, and is often referred to as the "land of a thousand hills." Its capital is Kigali, and the population is estimated at about 14 million. The country is densely populated and largely rural. The people are mainly Hutu, with Tutsi and Twa minorities.
Rwanda has experienced significant ethnic conflict, most notably the 1994 genocide, but has since been praised for its economic recovery and political stability under President Paul Kagame. The official languages are Kinyarwanda, French, English, and Swahili. Today, Rwanda operates as a multiparty republic and has made progress in reducing poverty and improving health and education, although concerns remain about political freedoms.
