Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe located between Romania and Ukraine, with Chișinău as its capital and largest city. It has a population of around 2.4 million and is mainly inhabited by Moldovans, with significant Russian and Ukrainian minorities. The country’s territory largely corresponds to the historic region of Bessarabia.

The region of Transnistria in eastern Moldova is a self-declared breakaway state with a predominantly Russian-speaking population. Moldova faces ongoing political struggles, economic challenges, and complex relations between its pro-Western and pro-Russian factions.
