Somalia is located in the Horn of Africa and has the longest coastline on mainland Africa. Its capital is Mogadishu, and the estimated population exceeds 18 million people. Most inhabitants are ethnic Somalis, and the official languages are Somali and Arabic, with Islam as the predominant religion.
Somalia’s economy relies on agriculture, livestock, and fishing, though much of its land is arid and only partly arable. The country achieved independence in 1960 but has faced longstanding political instability, civil conflict, and humanitarian crises. In recent years, efforts have focused on rebuilding state institutions and the economy.
