Alba-la-Romaine is a historic village in the Ardèche department of southern France, known for its remarkable blend of ancient Roman and medieval heritage.

It was once the Roman city of Alba Helviorum, the capital of the Helvii people, and today preserves one of the region’s most important archaeological sites, including a Roman theatre and other ancient ruins. The village itself is full of character, with narrow cobbled streets, traditional houses built from contrasting black basalt and white limestone, and a castle perched on a volcanic outcrop overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Its well-preserved historic center reflects more than 2,000 years of history. Today, Alba-la-Romaine is celebrated as one of Ardèche’s most attractive heritage villages.
