Aldeia da Ribeira
Portugal, Portugal
Aldeia da Ribeira is a small rural parish in Sabugal municipality, Guarda district, northeastern Portugal near the Spanish border, covering 28.69 km² and historically including the hamlets of Batocas and Escabralhado.
Built on a high rocky outcrop with cliffs offering views toward Vilar Maior and Guarda city, it features 19th-20th century landmarks like the São Pedro Parish Church, chapels to Santo António, Santo Antão, and São João, and ties to nearby Vilar Maior Castle ruins from medieval Reconquista times.
Once home to 131 residents in 2011 before merging into the Aldeia da Ribeira, Vilar Maior e Badamalos union in 2013, it exemplifies traditional raiana (borderland) villages with declining population amid scenic granite landscapes.
