Arlempdes is a picturesque medieval village in the Haute-Loire department of south-central France, recognized as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France).

The village sits dramatically on a volcanic basalt outcrop surrounded on three sides by a bend of the Loire River, creating one of the region’s most striking landscapes. Its most famous landmark is the Château d’Arlempdes, a medieval fortress overlooking the Loire Valley.

Built on the rocky peak, the castle ruins, along with the Romanesque Saint-Pierre Church and other historic structures, reflect the village’s rich medieval heritage. Today, Arlempdes attracts visitors with its stone houses, spectacular river views, volcanic scenery, and historic atmosphere. Despite its small population, it remains one of the most charming and culturally significant villages in the Haute-Loire region.
