Artas is a rural commune in the Isère department of the Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France.

Located between Vienne and Bourgoin-Jallieu, it has around 1,800 residents and is surrounded by farmland, small forests, rolling hills, and traditional countryside landscapes. The village is best known for claiming to be the birthplace of Mother’s Day in France. A celebration honoring mothers was held there on 10 June 1906, and this local heritage is still commemorated in the town today.

Historically part of the Dauphiné region, Artas has maintained a strong agricultural character while gradually growing as a residential community. During the reign of Louis XIV, oak trees from the local forests were reportedly used in the construction of royal galleys at Marseille. Today, Artas offers a peaceful village atmosphere, combining rural charm, local history, and easy access to larger towns in the Isère area.
