Autelbas Castle, more precisely called the Château d’Autelbas or Kasteel van Barnich, is the ruined remains of a medieval “plain castle” in the village of Autelbas‑Barnich (part of Arlon) in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium, situated alongside the small Autelbas stream, a tributary of the Eisch.

The site originally hosted a 13th‑century fortified stronghold that was destroyed in 1412–1413 by Burgundian forces, and in 1432 a new late‑medieval seigneurial residence was built on its ruins, later becoming the seat of the lords of Autel, a local noble family that played a notable role in Condroz and Luxembourgish history.

Over the centuries the castle was repeatedly altered, damaged in conflicts and family disputes, and gradually reduced in size, so that today only the eastern wing with a 15th‑century southern tower and a 17th‑century northern tower remain visible, the rest having been largely buried or lost. Still inhabited until the 1960s, the castle suffered a major fire in 1983 which destroyed most of the wooden structures and left the building in a largely ruinous state, after which excavations between 1991 and 1993 mapped the underground remains and restoration work has since aimed to stabilize and preserve the standing walls. 

The ruins are classified as protected heritage since 1976 and are accompanied by the Autelbas Museum, where visitors can see models of the castle at different periods, documents and objects from the site, and exhibits on the local pottery industry, making the site both a historical monument and a small but informative centre for the village’s medieval past.
