Auxonne is a historic town in the Côte-d’Or department of eastern France, situated on the banks of the Saône River.

With a population of around 7,500, it is known for its well-preserved fortifications and its important role as a former frontier stronghold between France and the Holy Roman Empire. The town is closely associated with Napoleon Bonaparte, who studied and served at the Royal Artillery School in Auxonne from 1788 to 1791.
