Bayan Botanical Garden
Kuwait, Kuwait
The Bayan Botanical Garden is a stunning plant sanctuary located within the grounds of Bayan Palace in Bayan, Kuwait, officially opened on February 24, 2015, by HH the Amir of Kuwait.
The garden occupies a total area of 15,793 square meters and features a remarkable 3,500-square-meter botanical glasshouse composed of three large arch structures with a maximum height of 12.5 meters, designed by Dutch architect Peter van der Toorn Vrijthoff. Inside the glasshouse, six themed gardens showcase four distinct climate zones—tropical, dry, Mediterranean, and European—bringing together exotic plants from around the world including palm and banana trees, cacti, wild orchids, flowering trees, vines, and lilies.
Despite Kuwait's extreme outdoor temperatures that can reach 53 degrees Celsius, the indoor climate is carefully controlled through innovative climate systems, allowing plants from diverse regions to thrive year-round. The garden was completed in February 2014 primarily for the Emir of Kuwait and serves as a venue for state visits, business meetings, relaxation lounges, and gatherings with botanical experts.
