Bielaviežskaja pušča National Park
Brest Region, Belarus
Bielaviežskaja pušča (Belovezhskaya Pushcha) National Park is a large, ancient forest reserve straddling the border between Belarus and Poland, with a major part located in the Brest Region of western Belarus just north of the city of Brest.
It protects one of the last remaining primeval lowland forests in Europe, formed from older woodland that once stretched across the European Plain and now covers about 1,500 square kilometers in Belarus alone.
The park is most famous for its large population of European bison, the continent’s heaviest land animal, and it also shelters many rare plants, birds, and mammals within a UNESCO World Heritage‑listed ecosystem.
Visitors can explore marked trails, cycling routes, animal‑enclosure zones, and small museums, while the area also hosts the fictional “Residence of Ded Moroz” (Grandfather Frost), making it both an ecological treasure and a popular destination for nature‑oriented tourism in Belarus.
