Blue Grotto

Żurrieq, Southern Region, Malta

---

The Blue Grotto is one of Malta’s most spectacular natural attractions, located near Żurrieq on the island’s southern coast.

It consists of a series of sea caves and a dramatic limestone arch carved by the Mediterranean Sea over thousands of years. The caves are famous for their crystal-clear waters, which reflect brilliant shades of blue and other vibrant colors onto the cave walls when sunlight enters at the right angle. The site is best explored by boat from the nearby fishing harbor of Wied iż-Żurrieq, where visitors can enter the caves and admire their unique rock formations and glowing waters.

The area is also popular for snorkeling, diving, swimming, and photography because of its exceptional underwater visibility and scenic coastal landscape. Overlooking the small island of Filfla, the Blue Grotto is regarded as one of Malta’s most beautiful natural landmarks. Its stunning sea caves, colorful reflections, and dramatic cliffs make it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and travelers.
