Bressuire is a historic town in the Deux-Sèvres department of western France and one of the main centers of the Bocage Bressuirais region. With a population of about 20,000, it is the second-largest municipality in the department and serves as an important administrative, commercial, and cultural hub. The town has origins dating back to Celtic and Gallo-Roman times and is built on a hill overlooking the Dolo River. Its most notable landmarks are the ruins of the medieval Château de Bressuire and the Church of Notre-Dame, which features architecture from the 12th to 15th centuries and an impressive Renaissance-era tower. Bressuire developed as a prosperous trading and textile center, particularly during the Middle Ages.
