Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha is Queensland's premier subtropical botanic garden, spanning 56 hectares (138 acres) at the foot of Brisbane's tallest mountain, Mount Coot-tha, located 7 kilometers from the Brisbane CBD in Toowong.
Founded in 1970 and opened in 1976, the gardens receive approximately 1.4 million visitors annually, offer free entry daily, and house the largest collection of Australian rainforest plants along with diverse native and exotic species from around the world.
Key attractions include the iconic domed Tropical Glasshouse greenhouse with lush tropical plants and a geometric ceiling, the serene Japanese Garden featuring a traditional pavilion, pond, clipped shrubs, and rocks, bamboo groves, a waterlily-covered lagoon, arid gardens, cactus house, Australian and exotic rainforests, the Queensland Conservation Trail, and the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium with interactive exhibits and cosmic shows in Queensland's largest planetarium.
The gardens also feature the historic Richard Randall Studio building, a library, state herbarium, planetarium, JC Slaughter Falls at the mountain's base, picnic areas, wheelchair access, free Wi-Fi, children's Hide 'n' Seek trail with a map from the Visitor Information Centre, and free guided garden tours from Monday to Saturday at 11 am and 1 pm departing from the Visitor Information Centre.
