Canisy is a small village in the Manche department of Normandy, best known for the magnificent Château de Canisy, one of the region’s most notable historic estates.

Surrounded by parkland, lakes, woodlands, and gardens, the château has long been a symbol of the area’s heritage and is considered one of the “Seven Wonders of Manche.” The château stands on the site of an earlier medieval stronghold and was largely built during the 16th and early 17th centuries. It has remained connected to the same family for nearly a thousand years, making it one of the rare French estates with such long continuous ownership.

During World War II, the estate was occupied by German forces and later served as a hospital for Allied soldiers after the liberation of the region. Today, Canisy attracts visitors with its historic architecture, expansive landscaped grounds, and rich connection to Normandy’s past.
