Castle Moerkerke
Damme, Belgium, Belgium
Castle Moerkerke is a historic castle located in the village of Moerkerke, within the municipality of Damme in West Flanders, Belgium, just a few kilometers south of Bruges.
Although its original medieval structure has largely been rebuilt or altered over time, the castle still stands surrounded by water much of the way and retains a distinctive moated appearance that recalls its older fortified past. Most of the current building dates from a major reconstruction in 1908, with further changes after the Second World War, so only fragments such as parts of the cellar and wall bases remain from the earliest phases.
Today the castle is used as a banquet and event venue, with several halls suitable for weddings, parties, and other celebrations, while still preserving elements like old coats of arms and historic interior details that link it to its former noble residents.
