The Castle of Freÿr in Hastière, Belgium, originally dates back to the Middle Ages but was rebuilt in Renaissance style after its destruction in 1554.

It became the summer residence of the Dukes of Beaufort-Spontin and is renowned for its elegant architecture blending Renaissance and Baroque elements. The castle showcases impressive interiors with murals by Frans Snyders, Louis XV frescoes, and a richly decorated chapel.

The gardens, inspired by André Le Nôtre, are laid out on terraces overlooking the Meuse River, featuring ancient orange trees housed in some of Europe’s oldest orangeries, intricate hedge mazes, fountains, and Rococo pavilions. The estate reflects over 650 years of history, hosting royal guests like Louis XIV, linking the beauty of human craftsmanship with natural grandeur along the Meuse, and offering visitors a rare glimpse into aristocratic life and garden design of the 18th century.​
