The Castle of Kassiopi is a historic fortress overlooking the seaside village of Kassiopi on the northeastern coast of Corfu.

Built during the Byzantine era, it was one of the three main castles that defended the island and controlled the important sea channel between Corfu and the nearby mainland. Thanks to its strategic location, the castle played a significant role in regional defense and passed through the hands of various rulers, including the Byzantines, Normans, Angevins, and Venetians.

Although the Venetians later dismantled parts of the fortress, much of its imposing perimeter and defensive layout can still be seen today. The castle’s walls follow the natural shape of the rocky peninsula and once included numerous towers and strong gates designed to protect the settlement and harbor below.

Over time, the site was abandoned and became surrounded by vegetation, adding to its atmospheric character. Today, the Castle of Kassiopi is one of Corfu’s most important historical landmarks, offering visitors a glimpse into the island’s medieval past along with magnificent views of the village, coastline, and Ionian Sea.
