The Castle of Lardos is a small medieval fortress located on a low hill just outside the village of Lardos on the island of Rhodes.

Most historians believe it was originally built during the Byzantine period, likely in the 12th century, and later used and reinforced by the Knights of Saint John after they took control of Rhodes in 1309. Because of its elevated position, the castle served as a lookout point and refuge for local residents during times of danger, helping monitor inland routes and possible enemy movements.

Although it was not considered one of the island’s strongest fortifications, it played a role in the defensive network of southern Rhodes. Today, the castle survives mainly as ruins, with parts of its walls, towers, courtyard, and an underground cistern still visible. Erosion and the reuse of building materials over the centuries have reduced much of the original structure.
