Castle of Neuvic
Neuvic, France, France
The Castle of Neuvic, also known as Château de Neuvic, is a 500-year-old Renaissance-style castle located in Neuvic sur l'Isle, a small town between Mussidan and Périgueux in the Dordogne region of France.
Built around 1520 by Annet de Fayolle and later passed to his nephew Jehan de Mellet, whose descendants owned it until 1925, the castle is a listed historical monument featuring authentic Renaissance murals and furnishings that preserve its original Renaissance style.
In 1950, the last owners bequeathed the château to the Fondation de l'Isle to house children in difficulty, and it now also serves as a venue offering group accommodation, wedding rooms, and seminar facilities. The castle sits within a beautiful 6-hectare botanical park containing diverse plant species including oaks, viburnums, dogwoods, willows, and maples, along with nesting boxes, feeders, and insect shelters, and has been a refuge for the League for the Protection of Birds since 2006.
A scenic riverside walk leads to Diane's Bath, an 18th-century romantic grotto where lovers once rendezvoused, and the castle also features a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the river. Guided tours last 1 hour 15 minutes and cost €6 for adults and €4 for children, with visits available September to June on the first weekend of each month and in July and August Tuesday through Saturday.
