Cayo Enrique
Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico
Cayo Enrique is a small, pristine, uninhabited mangrove cay located about 1.8 kilometers southeast of the town of La Parguera in the municipality of Lajas on Puerto Rico’s southwestern coast, and it’s one of the four most visited cays within the protected La Parguera Natural Reserve.
The island measures roughly 1.6 kilometers long and 600 meters wide, featuring crystal-clear shallow turquoise waters, soft white sand beaches, and a large coral reef that protects the La Parguera coastline while providing excellent habitat for colorful fish and marine life. It’s especially popular for snorkeling and scuba diving thanks to its vibrant coral formations and calm, protected waters, and visitors also enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, sunbathing, and relaxing on the beach.
To reach Cayo Enrique, you take a short 10–15 minute boat ride from La Parguera’s main town area, where you can buy round-trip tickets from local tour operators or rent a small boat or kayak and make the trip yourself. The cay offers amenities like beach umbrella and chair rentals, snorkel and water sports equipment rentals, certified lifeguards during peak hours, and shaded areas, though it remains a tranquil, less-crowded alternative to more tourist-heavy beaches.
