Centre Songhaï, located near Porto-Novo, Benin, is one of Africa’s best-known centers for sustainable agriculture, agroecology, and rural development. Founded in the 1980s by Godfrey Nzamujo, it combines farming, livestock raising, fish farming, food processing, renewable energy, and entrepreneurship training within a single integrated system. The center is internationally recognized for its “zero-waste” approach, where the by-products of one activity become resources for another, helping to reduce environmental impact while increasing productivity. In addition to producing food, Centre Songhaï trains thousands of young people, farmers, and entrepreneurs, making it a leading model for sustainable development, food security, and agricultural innovation in Africa.
