Chacenay
France, France
The Château de Chacenay is a well-preserved medieval fortress located in the commune of Chacenay in the Aube department of France.
It was first built in the 13th century and has a rich history, having been owned by various prominent families over the centuries. The castle features typical medieval defensive structures, including ramparts, ditches, towers, and a keep, although some parts like the original keep are no longer standing. During the Middle Ages, it served as an impregnable fortress and a site for crusades.
After suffering damage during the conflicts of Louis XI and fires during the French Revolution, it has been restored and is now recognized as a monument historique of France. Since 1990, it has been owned by private individuals and is open to visitors during the summer months, offering a glimpse into medieval architecture and history.
