Chateau Colonster
Liège, Belgium, Belgium
Chateau Colonster near Liège, Belgium, has origins dating back to the 9th century when it was owned by the powerful des Prez family.
Recorded in the 14th century, its current neoclassical appearance comes from an 18th-century rebuild by Maximilien-Henri de Horion, transforming it from a medieval stronghold into a pleasure palace.
The castle features a gauntlet-shaped plan with two towers and a chapel and is surrounded by a large park that is part of the Sart Tilman campus of the University of Liège, which has owned the property since 1963.
The castle was extensively restored after a fire in 1966 and now serves both cultural and educational purposes, hosting university events and housing a gourmet brasserie. Its grounds feature outdoor sculptures, blending history, art, and nature in a scenic setting close to the city.
