Château D'avin
Hannut, Belgium, Belgium
Château d’Avin is a historic 18th‑century castle in the village of Avin, near Hannut in eastern Belgium, set within a large English‑style park with old trees and a small pond.
The exact construction date of the present château is unknown, but it was built in the 18th century on the foundations of an older building, whose cellars date back to the 16th century, and the surrounding “commons” (former stables, barn and service buildings) are dated to 1776. Over the centuries the estate passed through several noble families, including d’Olne, de Laminne and Simonon, and from 1816 it became the property of the General Count Jean de Looz‑Corswarem, who enlarged and embellished the park and transformed the house into a more seigneurial, Empire‑style residence inaugurated around 1840.
After being restored in the late 20th and early 21st centuries by the contemporary owners, the Count and Countess Gérald de Looz‑Corswarem, the château was sensitively returned to its original 18th‑century proportions and character. Today Château d’Avin is mainly known as an elegant event venue. It hosts weddings, communion celebrations, receptions, seminars and team‑building activities in a series of spacious, gracefully connected salons, with capacity for small groups up to around 300 people, and it also offers guest accommodation and occasional special culinary evenings in its historic setting.
Located at Ruelle des Mottes 1 (Rue des Mottes) in Avin, 4280 Hannut, the castle remains a recognisable landmark of Hesbaye architecture and a well‑preserved example of a noble estate transformed into a modern reception and cultural space.
