Chateau de Beauregard
Tournai, Belgium, Belgium
The Château de Beauregard in and near Tournai, Belgium, refers to a small but elegant 18th‑century château in Froyennes (just southwest of Tournai) that replaced an older medieval manor and was built on land that had been a former castle estate since at least the 15th century.
The present building is a neoclassical manor ordered by Hippolyte Marescaille de Courcelles and constructed from 1795 by the Tournai architect Antoine Payen‑le‑Vieux; it originally had two storeys and was raised to three in 1841, while the surrounding estate includes a 40‑hectare landscaped park with an English‑style design, trees, ponds, terraces, and agricultural buildings such as a farmhouse and dependencies built in the 19th century.
The site is officially protected as a heritage “site” classed in 1976, together with the château, park, nearby church, a communication avenue lined with avenue trees, an old watermill, and surrounding fields, making it a recognized example of rural noble architecture and landscape in the Tournai region rather than a public tourist attraction comparable to the famous Château de Beauregard in the Loire Valley of France.
