Chateau de la Motte en Gée
Huy, Belgium, Belgium
Château de la Motte en Gée (also called “the Red Castle”) is a historic red‑brick château set on the edge of the Tihange Woods near the hamlet of La Motte‑en‑Gée in the Huy area of Belgium, technically close to Tihange rather than within the town centre of Huy itself.
The earliest “Motte en Gée” building on the site dates from around 1100 and was owned by the religious Community of Neufmoustier, founded by Pierre l’Érmite, and for centuries it remained part of the Abbey of Neufmoustier in Huy. Financial difficulties eventually forced the abbey to sell the property to the Abbey of Saint‑Laurent in Liège before the French Revolution, and the old house gradually fell into decay, changing hands among several families over the centuries.
