Château de Lihérin
Gouvy, Belgium, Belgium
The Château de Lihérin (also called Château de La Laide‑Fagne or Lihérain) is a historic estate and castle in the commune of Gouvy, province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, Belgium, situated west of the village of Steinbach on a wooded hillside overlooking a valley.
The site is unusual in that it is built on the remains of a Roman villa and also contains a Roman tomb, while the present buildings are essentially a 19th‑century chateau‑farm originally constructed in 1766 in schist and brick, with a neoclassical whitened façade and a small bell‑tower added in 1840, and later renewed at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century for the Schmitz family, descendants of the local Steinbach line.
Classified as a protected monument in 1979, the château is a private residence that today operates as a high‑end rural venue for weddings, family reunions and corporate events, offering a large reception room suitable for up to 260 guests, 16 fully renovated double rooms with private bathrooms set in an eight‑hectare estate, and a swimming pool and wellness area with jacuzzi and sauna, while the main chateau and its farm outbuildings can be rented together or separately in this secluded location about 45 minutes from the cities of Liège and Luxembourg.
