Château de Logne
Ferrières, Belgium, Belgium
Château de Logne in Ferrières, Belgium, is a historic fortified castle first mentioned in 883, with existing ruins mainly dating from the 12th century.
It was a stronghold with noble apartments added between 1200 and 1250 and served as a shelter for monks during the 9th century when they fled from Norman invasions. The castle’s strategic location at the confluence of the Ourthe and Lembrée rivers made it an important defensive site. It was expanded in the late 15th century, but ultimately destroyed by order of Charles V in 1521 after conflicts involving the Duke of Bouillon.
Today, the impressive ruins can be explored by visitors, and nearby the 15th-century Bouverie farm houses a museum with artifacts from the castle, offering insight into its long history and significance in the region.
