Château de Neuville-en-Condroz Neupré
Neupré, Belgium, Belgium
Château de Neuville-en-Condroz is a picturesque medieval castle located at Neuville-en-Condroz, a village within the municipality of Neupré in Liège Province, Wallonia, Belgium, at 13 Allée du Château, 4121 Neupré.
Originally built as a fortified stone castle surrounded by moats (still existing today) in the second half of the 13th century, the estate was first a manor house called Maison forte des Marteau, then evolved through four main phases: a fortified quadrilateral under the Warnant family around the 16th century, a pleasure residence under the Lannoy family from the early 18th century, and modernization under the Tornaco family a century later.
The original castle featured a keep and three towers (possibly four) with arrow slits dating from the 15th century, and the property has been owned by the Donmartin family, then the Warnant de Warfusée from the 15th century, then by inheritance to the counts of Lannoy-Clervaux in the 18th century, and finally to the Tornaco in the 19th century.
After decades of abandonment and progressive ruin, the castle was restored starting in 2004 under Frédéric Lakaye and Biorem company, bringing the 13th-century building back to its former splendor and transforming it into a venue that now combines historical prestige with modern event facilities.
