Château de Resteigne
Tellin, Belgium, Belgium
Château de Resteigne is a large classical‑style château in the village of Resteigne, part of Tellin in the province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, Belgium, situated on a slope above the valley of the Lesse river.
Its origins date to the 12th century, with the first known owners being the Loraine family, and it flourished in the 15th century under the Berlo lords of Lavaux‑Sainte‑Anne, then passed to the Mérode family in the 16th century, before being transformed again in the 18th and 19th centuries, so that the present building combines a late 11th‑century main block and tower with a robust square 18th‑century mansion and a farm.
In the 19th century the château was the home of Edmond d’Hoffschmidt, a son of the former lord who became a hermit and philosopher and founded an ermitage nearby, and today the estate is no longer a museum but a fully renovated private residence that operates as a polyvalent venue for family weekends, large receptions, banquets, weddings, seminars and other events, with about a dozen comfortable guest rooms, four adjoining reception salons that can seat up to 300 or accommodate 500 for cocktails, and space for marquees in its courtyard and park by the Lesse.
