Verified Château de Villers-aux-Tours

Anthisnes, Belgium, Belgium

The Château de Villers‑aux‑Tours is a late‑17th‑century manor house in the village of Villers‑aux‑Tours, part of the commune of Anthisnes in Liège province, Belgium, built between 1682 and 1687 for Godefroid de Rahier, lord of Logne, and his wife Anne‑Marie Philippe d’Argenteau on the site of a medieval feudal dwelling that had been burnt down in 1675.

The château is constructed of local stone in a Louis XIV style, with a massive main block and a single older tower flanking it, and it retains historical ties to the old Limbourg duchy as one of the seven “Seigneuries d’au‑delà‑des‑Bois” and to the Abbey of Saint‑Laurent, whose property it later became.

Since major renovations between 2013 and 2017, the building no longer serves as a private residence but operates as “La Caponnière,” a residential institution for adults with intellectual disabilities under the ASBL Ensemble, which also manages similar sites such as the nearby Château Roseraie in Spa, marking a modern, socially oriented use of this centuries‑old heritage building.
