Château de Vinalmont
Wanze, Belgium, Belgium
The Château de Vinalmont is a historic manor house in the village of Vinalmont, part of the commune of Wanze in Liège province, Belgium, set on the edge of the village near the church and known for its mix of medieval and later architectural elements.
The site originally belonged to the old “de Vinalmont” family and probably began as a 14th‑century fortified tower (“cour‑tour”) attached to a farm called “Ferme à la tour,” which still survives beside the church and shows the typical form of medieval manors in the Hesbaye region.
The present château itself is a more modern, residential seigneurial building, now used as private housing and not generally open to the public, but it remains a prominent stone landmark in Vinalmont, a village famous for its limestone quarries, its white‑weathering buildings, and its former vineyards that were destroyed by the French army in 1694 during the “marche de Vignamont”.
