Château de Warfusée

The Château de Warfusée is a classical 18th‑century castle in the hamlet of Warfusée, part of Saint‑Georges‑sur‑Meuse near Liège, Wallonia, Belgium, set within a square‑planned estate surrounded by a park and a pond.

Its predecessor was a medieval donjon and Renaissance manor belonging to great Liège families such as the Haneffe, d’Enghien, de la Marck, de Corswaren, de Hamal, de Renesse, de Thiennes and de Bavière‑Schagen, and in 1707 Marie‑Isabelle de Bavière‑Schagen brought the domain to the d’Oultremont family through her marriage to François d’Oultremont.

The present château was built in 1754–1755 by Florent d’Oultremont, brother of Prince‑Bishop Charles‑Nicolas d’Oultremont, under the architect Jean Gilles Jacob, replacing the earlier Renaissance residence with a Louis XV–style building that remains the main residence of the Counts of d’Outremont to this day.

The estate is classified as an exceptional heritage site of Wallonia, and its interior is noted for exceptional ornamentation, including numerous works of art and important furniture, partly from the Prince‑Bishop’s collection, while the castle is a private residence that can only be visited by groups on special occasions, often during guided tours organized by the local tourist office in the Terres‑de‑Meuse area.
