The Château des Anglais, also known as the Château de la Roque d’Autoire, is a medieval fortress built into the cliffs above the village of Autoire in the Lot department of southwestern France.

Constructed around the 12th and 13th centuries, it occupies a dramatic position beneath a limestone overhang, making it both well hidden and naturally defended. The castle is closely associated with the Hundred Years’ War, when it served as a stronghold for English-backed forces and armed bands, which gave rise to its current name.

Although much of the fortress has fallen into ruin, parts of its fortified buildings, towers, and defensive structures can still be seen today. Perched high above Autoire, one of France’s most beautiful villages, the site offers spectacular views of the valley, cliffs, and surrounding countryside. Reached by a hiking trail, it is a popular destination for visitors interested in history, medieval architecture, and scenic landscapes.
