Château d'Ordange
Seraing, Belgium, Belgium
Château d’Ordange is a small medieval castle in the village of Jemeppe-sur-Meuse, part of the municipality of Seraing in the Liège province of Belgium, located at Rue d’Ordange 8 and preserved as one of the notable historic châteaux of the area.
First mentioned in the 15th century, it originally belonged to the allodial court of Liège and was damaged by the troops of Charles the Bold in 1468 and then destroyed in 1490 during conflicts involving the lords de la Marck and Bishop Jean de Horn; it was subsequently rebuilt and remained in use through the 16th and later centuries while retaining the enclosed layout and surrounding moats typical of a medieval fortress.
The building is a U‑shaped structure with an interior courtyard open to the north, surrounded by water-filled moats fed in former times by the Ordange stream, and its main entrance is framed by two round towers of stone built around the end of the 15th century, with later brick-and-stone wings including a façade dated 1643, giving the castle a mixture of medieval and early modern elements.
