Château et parcs de Beauraing
Beauraing, Belgium, Belgium
The Château et parcs de Beauraing is a historic estate and public park complex in the town of Beauraing, province of Namur, Wallonia, Belgium, formed by the former two large properties of Castel Saint‑Pierre and Castel Sainte‑Marie, which were reunited under the municipality in 2022–2024 to create a single 60‑hectare public domain.
The lower part, the Parc Saint‑Pierre, is a 27‑hectare wooded “à l’anglaise” park with seven ponds, picnic areas, barbecue zones, a small animal park, an arboretum of about fifty species, playgrounds, a chapel, orientation trails and a Vita‑piste, and is freely accessible to all, right next to the town centre.
The upper part, the Parc Sainte‑Marie, is a 30–32‑hectare wooded park that rises towards the ruins of the old castle of Beauraing, originally founded in the 11th century and substantially rebuilt in the 13th century, later transformed into a splendid ducal residence in the 19th century before being destroyed by fire in 1889, leaving today only towers, walls and outbuildings that can be seen from the outside but not entered.
