Château-ferme de Falnuée
Gembloux, Belgium, Belgium
Château-ferme de Falnuée is a fortified castle farm in Mazy, a village in the municipality of Gembloux in the province of Namur, Belgium, situated at the confluence of the Orneau and Ligne rivers in a valley surrounded by wooded hills.
Its oldest part is a medieval keep or donjon built in the 13th century as a strategic stronghold on the border between the County of Namur and the Duchy of Brabant, while the rest of the quadrilateral complex was developed in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries with limestone farm buildings, wings and a tower added in the 18th century.
Classified as a major Walloon heritage site since 1976, the estate lost its military function in the late 18th century and was used mainly as an agricultural and seigneurial farm, then from the 1990s it was transformed into a leisure and hospitality complex that now houses a 18-hole golf course, an 10-room three-star hotel, club rooms, meeting spaces and a restaurant known as Le Pavillon Vert, all integrated into the historic buildings of the château-ferme.
The site is therefore both a protected medieval monument and a modern golf and hotel venue, offering golfers, visitors and groups a setting in which a 5800‑metre course, natural riverside landscapes and Natura 2000 zones are framed by the remains of a 700‑year‑old fortified stone manor and farm complex.
