Château-Fort de Feluy
Seneffe, Belgium, Belgium
Château‑Fort de Feluy is a historic fortified castle in the village of Feluy, part of the commune of Seneffe in the province of Hainaut, Wallonia, Belgium, originally built around 1380 on the orders of Eustache de Bousies and later transformed from a medieval stronghold into a harmonious country residence where Gothic, medieval and classical styles coexist.
The castle belonged in turn to the families of Bousies, Rubempré, Renesse and de Berghe, before being acquired in 1774 by the Countess d’Isendoorn de Blois who modernised the main building in late‑18th‑century fashion, and it was later restored and embellished in the 1940s by architect Puttemans, with a formal French garden and romantic terraces added, and in the 1970s its medieval wing and honour courtyard were restored under architect Gochet.
The present castle consists of two distinct parts: a fortified wing with its older defensive elements and a more residential main building, both surrounded by a moat fed by the Graty stream that forms a small pond behind the structure, and the entire ensemble is officially listed as a historical monument.
Today the castle is not regularly open to the public, but the estate and its grounds are used for private events such as weddings, receptions, seminars and team‑building activities, and it can occasionally be visited during special occasions or heritage days, offering a picturesque setting illuminated at night that blends fortified architecture with elegant residence and landscaped gardens.
