Château Lagrézette
Caillac, France, France
Château Lagrézette is a historic fortified house located near the river Lot in Caillac, in the Lot department of southwestern France.
Its origins trace back to a 12th-century fortified house, with the current château built in the 15th century by Pierre de Massault on medieval foundations. Over the centuries, it combined sturdy medieval architecture with elegant Renaissance decoration.
The château fell into disrepair by the mid-20th century but was purchased and meticulously restored starting in 1980 by Alain-Dominique Perrin, former president of Cartier, who revitalized the estate and its historic vineyards. The vineyard around Château Lagrézette is one of the oldest in southwestern France, producing highly regarded Malbec wines with expert contributions from renowned oenologist Michel Rolland.
The château is recognized as a historic monument and is notable not only for its architecture and viticulture but also for hosting eminent visitors and being linked to contemporary art patronage. It remains a prominent cultural and winemaking landmark with a rich legacy spanning several centuries.
