Château Le Fy

Château Le Fy is a striking, storybook-like castle perched on a rocky promontory above the village of Esneux and the River Ourthe valley in Liège Province, Belgium.

It was built between 1904 and 1905 by the internationally renowned architect Paul Saintenoy for Jean-Édouard-Jules Van Parys, who was the son-in-law of the industrialist and philanthropist Ernest Solvay. The building is an eclectic mix of architectural styles: its main façade shows French Renaissance influence, a side tower has a medieval appearance.

The roof is Gothic in character and famously consists of 343 separate roof sections, giving the château a picturesque, almost fairy-tale silhouette with numerous turrets, lucarnes and spires. The château is set within a classified English-style park with winding paths, lawns and carefully recorded trees, and its position makes it a dominant visual landmark over Esneux and the nearby Ourthe bridge.
