City Botanic Gardens
Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia, Australia
The City Botanic Gardens, located in the heart of Brisbane City on Alice Street at Gardens Point, is Brisbane's most historic and favourite green space, originally established in 1825 as a collection of food crops planted by convicts.
This heritage-listed 49-acre public park sits right in the CBD between the city centre and the Brisbane River, offering an easy 20-minute walk from the city centre or quick access from Central and Roma Street railway stations, bus stops, and the City Cat terminal. The gardens feature manicured lawns, towering Moreton Bay figs, bunya pines, rainforest, mangroves, ornamental ponds, bamboo walkways, bike and walking paths, and an all-abilities playground, making it perfect for picnics, relaxation, and outdoor activities.
Visitors can enjoy free one-hour guided tours at 11 am and 1 pm Monday to Saturday, explore the historic 1867 stone drinking fountain (Queensland's first ornamental drinking fountain), view the sculpture "Jemmy Morrill and the Brolgas," see the Flood Mark indicating 1974 and 2011 flood levels, attend the popular Sunday Riverside Markets, or attend concerts at the outdoor Riverstage venue.
