Clock Tower
Serpa, Portugal, Portugal
Clock Tower in Serpa, Portugal, is a Gothic quadrangular structure dating from 1440, one of the country's three oldest clock towers and a remnant of the medieval town walls enclosing the castle, Church of Santa Maria, and original settlement.
Originally part of the defensive perimeter rebuilt by King Dinis from 1295, it features a bell with a conical spire, pinnacles, and beveled merlons atop a double-arch gate, later plastered during 1970s-1980s restorations alongside nearby walls.
Positioned near the castle's keep remnants, it symbolizes Serpa's layered Moorish-Christian history amid the Alentejo frontier landscape.
