Confolens, located in southwestern France in the Charente region, has a history dating back to the 11th century when it developed around a fortress.

The town retains many medieval features, including city walls, several houses from the 15th to 18th centuries, and a 14th-century bridge over the Vienne River. Confolens grew as an administrative and trade center due to its strategic location on the old Roman road linking Angoulême to Bourges. It is known for its three historic religious buildings: the Convent of the Récollets, the Convent of the Clarisses, and the House of the Sisters of Charity, as well as its cobbled streets and Renaissance architectural elements.

Historically connected to the principality of Chabanais, the town played roles in regional conflicts and was also associated with notable figures like Émile Roux, a collaborator of Louis Pasteur. Today, Confolens is recognized for preserving its rich cultural heritage and serves as a hub for festivals and tourism, celebrating its vibrant history and architectural charm.
