Congida
Portugal, Portugal
Congida is a small settlement and river‑beach area in the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in northeastern Portugal’s Trás‑os‑Montes region, right on the Douro River near the Spanish border.
It lies along the wide reservoir created by the Saucelle Dam, giving it calm, lake‑like waters that are popular for swimming, boating, and sightseeing. The Congida River Beach is the main focus here, offering a Blue‑Flag‑certified leisure space with picnic areas, a children’s playground, a small river pool, municipal swimming pools, shaded spots, and a riverside bar, all set against the greenery of the Douro Internacional Natural Park.
The area also has the “Houses of the Douro International,” a cluster of simple houses on the nearby hillside where visitors can stay, and Congida serves as a departure point for boat trips along the scenic Douro River.
