Originally called Pipeclay Beach until 1954 and meaning "grey" in the local Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal language, it sits where the 30° south latitude marks the boundary between the Tasman Sea and Coral Sea, featuring a 350-meter sandy stretch protected by reefs and rocks for calm waves under 0.5 meters ideal for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and rock pools.

Home to Australia's largest blueberry farm, the Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre, and a holiday caravan park with patrolled summer beaches, it offers a relaxed vibe amid kangaroos, kookaburras, and the Solitary Islands Marine Park's rich marine life.
