Discovery Bay is a vast open oceanic bay spanning eastern South Australia and western Victoria in southeastern Australia, stretching about 70 km along the Southern Ocean from Cape Northumberland near Port MacDonnell to Cape Bridgewater west of Portland.

Named by explorer Thomas Mitchell in 1836 upon descending the Glenelg River—which flows into the bay near Nelson—it features dramatic coastal cliffs, expansive sandy beaches, massive dunes, and basalt rock formations from ancient volcanic activity.

Protected by the 10,460-hectare Discovery Bay Coastal Park, Discovery Bay Marine National Park, and nearby marine reserves, it offers pristine habitats for fur seals, diverse marine life like sponge gardens, and activities such as fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing amid high wave energy and rugged beauty.
