Donjon de Day
Neuville-Day, France, France
The Donjon de Day is a well-preserved medieval tower located in the hamlet of Day, part of the commune Neuville-Day in the Ardennes department of France. Built in the 13th century, it is a prime example of feudal architecture in the region, situated on a mound overlooking the local valley and the nearby Canal des Ardennes.
The tower features two turrets, one housing a spiral staircase, and consists of three floors with circular rooms on each level. The guardroom on the first floor is notable for its vaulted ceiling with seven ribs and a large fireplace adorned with the coat of arms of the Bohan-Ligneville family.
Defensive elements such as arrow slits and cannon openings are integrated into the thick stone walls. The Donjon de Day is recognized as a historic monument of France and remains a picturesque relic of medieval times in the area.
