Verified EG Waterhouse Camellia Gardens Sutherland Shire

Caringbah South, New South Wales, Australia, Australia

EG Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens is a renowned botanical garden located at 104 President Avenue in Caringbah South, New South Wales, overlooking the beautiful Yowie Bay in the Sutherland Shire.

In March 2014, the International Camellia Society named it an International Camellia Garden of Excellence, making it one of only 40 such gardens worldwide and the only one in New South Wales. The garden began in 1969 as a bicentenary project commemorating Captain Cook's 1770 landing at Kurnell, with official dedication on July 18, 1970, and honors Professor E.G. Waterhouse, a leading world authority on camellias who lived in Sydney.

Today it features vibrant camellia collections blooming across all seasons, diverse floral species, walking paths, a children's playground, picnic and barbecue areas, public toilets, parking, and a popular teahouse cafe famous for its scones. The peaceful retreat is home to endangered wildlife including the Powerful Owl, welcomes visitors with access needs, offers free entry, and is open daily with no pets allowed except assistance dogs.
