The Fortezza of Rethymnon is a large Venetian fortress that dominates a hill overlooking the old town of Rethymno on the island of Crete.

Built between 1573 and 1580 after earlier Ottoman attacks, it was designed to protect the city and its harbor and remains one of the most impressive fortifications in Greece. Constructed on the site of the ancient acropolis of Rithymna, the fortress features massive walls, bastions, gates, and military buildings that reflect Renaissance-era defensive architecture.

It later passed into Ottoman control in 1646, and several structures inside the fortress were modified or added during that period. Although many of the original buildings no longer survive, visitors can still explore historic monuments, open spaces, and remnants of military and religious structures within its walls. The fortress also offers outstanding views of Rethymno, the Venetian harbor, and the Cretan coastline.
